| When they first played CBGB’s, they were the nicest, most polite, midwestern kids (OFF STAGE). But they eventually succumbed to their on stage notoriety. By the end of the year, we had The Ramones back again, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, The Talking Heads, as well as a new, and quite interesting band from the south called “The Dixie Dreggs.” In October, “The Good Rats”, from Long Island, who were very popular on the east coast, made their first appearance on CB’s stage. The “Dictators” did their Halloween show and the “Dead Boys” came back in November. After leaving the “Heartbreakers” Richard Hell formed his own band which he called “Richard Hell and the Voidoids”. They made their first appearance as did “ The Fleshtones”, and “Eddie Benitez and Nebula". “Blondie” and “The Mumps” started off December. “The Feelies”made their first gig at CB’s as did Steve Forbert, coming all the way from Meridian Miss. He was the only solo performer who was able to compete with the punk bands at that time. He played repeatedly and everyone loved his music. Charlie Martin, our sound engineer, worked with Steve after hours, recording him over and over helping him perfect his music. |
