One in a Million

i worked at CB’s on and off from '90-'94-i first worked in the pizza place and then did some stage management-i would then go on to play the club several times
when i worked there i was young and i had the time of my life-
it seemed that i was ALWAYS getting yelled at by hilly-he was a man of few words-he used to say to me "you're not working, you're talking to girls!"or "playing pool,AGAIN ?" in a voice and tone that was undeniably hilly-
i did manage to get very good at pool there-and if anyone remembers the lay out of the old pizza place(when it was next door to the club)thats saying a lot!
-eventually i was fired
-and then re-hired
-and then I just kinda stopped working there
-but once you were a part of the cb's family-you were in for the long haul-over the years i would stop by and say hi to some of the lifers if i was in the area-come see great shows-and every time i got to play there it always brought back such incredible memories-not to mention that it was hands down the best sounding club(onstage and off) in my opinion
i will never forget one of the last times i played there and we were sound checking-it was around 4 or 5 in the afternoon and i noticed that hilly was standing at the board with jamie-i remember thinking man-thats cool-even if he hated the music-he was still there watching us check-then when we were finished and i was taking off for a while(probably to go have a drink at the mars bar) i walked past the front desk-and hilly was sitting in the chair and he said the two words i will NEVER forget-"sounds good!"
yes hilly- you were a man of few words-and i will truly miss your grumpy ass and beer soaked club-i am forever changed by CBGB’s
