Installment Vol.4 Page 2

One of the bands that I remember- other then the ones I've already mentioned- was a band from New Jersey who played in 1975 called "Quacky Duck." A silly name, but you never know. In this case they happened to be the two sons of (THE) "TONY BENNETT", And like a good father, he came to see them. It created a stir at CBGB's. The band was really good. They played fresh pop music and were tight musicians with catchy songs. I don't know what happened to the band after the couple of times they played, but Danny Bennett (one of the sons) has become an important manager in the music business, and of course manages his father. "The Rice Miller Band" , a tough, Greenpoint Brooklyn band, used to bring their gear in a dump truck. "Somebody Good" always showed up in an ancient white Rolls Royce. "Ruby and the Red Necks" established a real buzz around town. As a matter of fact they just this last year had a reunion here at CB's and were as good as I remember them. "Milk and Cookies" were another poppy punk band that everyone liked. MAXANNE, a D.J. at WBCN in Boston brought down one of Boston's premier new bands "Reddy Teddy," CATHY CHAMBERLAIN'S "Rag and Roll Review" was a big hit. I was really impressed by "Turner and Kirwin of Wexford." They were playing the club BELLS OF HELL, and it was much later that I persuaded the Irish band to play CBGB's. They were the house band at Malachi McCord's Bells of Hell, and they probably felt they owed him their allegiance. They subsequently evolved into what is now "Black 47" who also played CB's years later and are still very active today. The last days of 1975 I had a big Christmas fest introducing "The Poppies" another new band.
