Installment Vol.4 Page 3

In those last days of 75', I opened a club, or I should say, reopened a club, on west 13th street, opposite the Bells of Hell. I called the club "PIX" (for pictures). This was my first endeavor in trying to contribute to the art world. The first art show that I hung, was the works of Stephanie Hopkins. It was glitter art-metal and glass produced on canvas of: The STONES in concert, MARILYN MONROE, KEITH RICHARDS, MICK JAGGER and about five or six other infamous rock stars. PIX had its difficulties right from the beginning. I hired the artist's representative as the manager of the club, and one night, about 2am, I received a call from the Bells of Hell, saying that she had come across the street for a few drinks and was acting kind of peculiar. I rushed over in a cab and found the club empty, the lights blazing, the door wide open, nothing taken thank heavens, and there she was, passed out on the floor of the check room, DRUNK!! Well, after a couple of months I sold the place having put the pictures in CBGB's, which you can see in some early photos. Eventually all the clubs were pushed off the street by a very conservative group of self important dignitaries who lived on the block. I believe RENO SWEENEYS was the next to leave. They were without doubt, the best and the most beautiful, the finest small cabaret of the 70s. I remember a host of famous performers who played there including GENYA RAVAN, TOM WAITS, MELLISA MANCHESTER, HOLLY WOODLAWN and many, many others.
