| Hilly Kristal, owner and founder of CBGB, writes a brief history of the club that for the past thirty five years has become synonymous with underground music. CBGB.com presents this history as it is written in sequential installments. | ------------------------------ | ||
| Installment Vol.6 Page 6 Another special rock group was “The Cryers”, from Meridian Miss. As was Steve Forbert. They were a melodic pop rock band with really good songs and a fresh style. I eventually got them signed to Mercury Records where they released a couple of records. Steve Katz who I knew from “The Even Dozen Jug Band” and “Blood Sweat and Tears” and was then vice president of A&R for Mercury, signed the band. He and his assistant Peter Mench really loved the band. I remember the poet Allen Ginsburg used to come to all their gigs. 1977 was the beginning of a tumultuous period for punk and CBGBs. |
